About me
I am a veteran journalist based in new york city. I work with media outlets to deliver engaging and impactful stories and multimedia packages. And I help corporate executives develop thought leadership opEds to boost their reach and influence.
A super-short bio
I might have what one colleague dubbed, somewhat cynically, a “New York Times byline” in J. Jennings Moss. But everyone knows me as Josh.
I was born in Tokyo to American parents, and lived in Hong Kong for eight years before moving to the U.S. I went to high school and college in Tucson, where I turned my parents’ house into an Airbnb. I’ve been working since I was 14, when I got an after-school job working at the soda fountain of a drug store. I’ve beenĀ a journalist my entire career, although I did have a couple of really random P.R. gigs in my early 20s working for Ringling Bros. Circus as well helping publicize a professional croquet tournament.
Aside from a recent seven-year stint in Silicon Valley, I’ve been on the East Coast. Right now, I live in Brooklyn’s Gowanus neighborhood with my husband and two miniature schnauzers.
What I do
Words
I've been a newspaper reporter, a magazine writer, a news website producer and editor, and an editor-in-chief of two business publications.
visuals
I have a great eye for impactful photographs. And I create non-fiction, short-form videos. My primary tool for both stills and video is my iPhone.
strategy
I bring more than 30 years of media experience to the table, either to help publications or companies be better communicators. I do so with an approach based on honestly and collaboration.
